At a time when the coronavirus pandemic is spreading around the world, art directors and artists are using magazine covers as a visual reminder of the crisis.
The covers range from grim images, such as that of the lone bass guitarist of the biweekly cultural publication New York Magazine, to challenging statements such as that of the men’s fashion and style magazine GQ Portugal “F*ck off Covid-19”-smiley.
A number of the publications produced the covers at the last minute to keep up with the constantly changing nature of events.
The Guardian Weekly’s March 27 cover, “The New Isolation,” sets itself up as the reality of the social alienation that hit the UK.
